Behind the 3D Strap Builder: How Custom Gear Gets Configured Online

Ordering custom gear used to be a phone call, a sketch on a fax, and a callback with a quote. We built the 3D builder to compress all of that into a browser tab — and to make sure what you see on screen is exactly what comes off the bench.

What it actually does

Open the strap builder and you assemble the real product: pick the ratchet style, the webbing width and color, the exact length, and the hardware on each end, and the 3D view renders your choices as you make them — the actual hooks, seated the way they will hang. The chain builder does the same for Grade 70 assemblies (size, length to the foot, hook on each end), and the sling builder configures web slings by type, width, ply, and eye length.

The honesty features

Two design rules run the whole tool. What renders is what bills: every component in the picture is a real, rated part from our catalog — if a hook shows on screen, that exact hook ships on your strap. The rating is on the screen: the build shows its governing Working Load Limit — the weakest component's number, the one that matters at an inspection — before you pay, not on a tag you discover later. Prices come from the live store in real time, so the builder and our shelves never disagree.

From your screen to the bench

When you order, the spec — every component, every length — rides the order to our floor in Cuba, Missouri, where it is cut, sewn, and assembled per the same process as everything we make, typically shipping in 1–3 business days. There is no minimum quantity and no custom premium drama: one strap, your measurements, same benches as the Quick Picks.

Getting the most out of it

  • Measure first. The builder sews what you enter — the measuring guide takes two minutes and prevents the classic mistakes.
  • Know your anchor points. The hook menu is big; your trailer narrows it fast (the fittings guide maps hooks to anchors).
  • Let the WLL guide the width. If the number shown will not clear your aggregate math, go wider — the choosing guide pairs widths to load classes.
  • Or skip straight to answers: the Help Me Choose tool asks four questions and hands you a build already configured — you land in the builder with everything picked and editable.

Always rig within the rated Working Load Limit. Inspect straps and chain before each use and remove them from service if cut, gouged, excessively worn, corroded, or deformed.
